Cancer Breakthrough? Cleveland Clinic Verifies Drug’s Success

Finally, a cancer breakthrough?

Imagine killing cancer cells without damaging healthy tissue – quite different from experiencing the ravages of chemo. Cleveland State University Professor, Dr. Michael Kalafatis, discovered this effective drug while working on a totally unrelated experiment on blood coagulation in CSU’s chemistry lab.

WKYC reported that both Cleveland Clinic and the National Institutes of Health have tested Dr. Kalafatis’ drug and report the same amazing results. In fact, the National Institutes of Health successfully tested this drug on close to 60 different cancer lines.

So why isn’t this cancer story reaching national news? It is amazing to me is that this cancer drug news garnered such little attention. If your loved ones have ever been touched by cancer, you know the importance of such a discovery. There is a duty to share.

Please pass this information and link to everyone you know. Dr. Kalafatis needs funding to continue his research for a cancer treatment breakthrough and potentially revolutionize the way we fight (and dare I say cure) cancer.

Please don’t think twice. Share the hope. Share the news.

Lessons from the Porch – Storms of Life

Darkness came swiftly as the pelting rain came roaring through the valley.

The unbearable heat and humidity that had been with us for the last several days was suddenly washed away. Welcomed winds immediately cooled the air, dropping the temperature so quickly we actually felt chilled.

Change comes quickly to Hocking Hills

What was most amazing were the stunning, minute-by-minute changes to the sky. Perched on the porch with camera in hand, it was exciting to witness the awesome color changes, the fog rolling in, and then the cleared sky and sunset. Within a short hour, the perspective from the porch had changed dramatically.

Hocking Hills Sunlight Fog

Just like life, change often comes quickly and unexpectedly, immediately affecting your perspective as well as your choices. The fog of uncertainty can certainly be challenging. This is why it is so vital to build a foundation of unshakable personal truth. Who are you? What do you stand for? What is most important to you? Then follow that inner guidance system.

How do you handle the storms that enter your life? Follow the Circle of Wisdom (Awareness, Acceptance, Accountability, Action, Achievement, Assess & Adjust) and your choices will become easier. The fog will clear. How you deal with change is entirely within your control. Really. You can choose to let the natural cycle of life nurture or destroy. Whether you find yourself in the middle of a drought, a flood, or gentle rain, with what lens will you choose to view life’s transitions?

Hocking Hills Sunset

The storm will pass. The sun will return. It always does.

Money Saving Coupon Site – Discounts You Can Use

Want to find a great coupon site that will help you save money on products you really use? Want discount coupons for household necessities?

I feel like I hit the grocery coupon jackpot!

I love value for my money. As a consumer advocate and financial educator, I am always on the lookout for great deals I can share with my readers. How did I miss this coupon site? Coupons from Kleenix to cookies, diapers to dog food, and all name brands that you are familiar with. Velveeta, Nabisco, Kraft, Maxwell House, Wisk, Huggies, Glamour Magazine, Crystal Light and OptiFree discount coupons are available.  Most the coupons I clipped and printed were for $1 off. You can find:

  • Beverages
  • Household
  • Personal Care
  • Health Care
  • Entertainment
  • Pet Care
  • Local Coupons

Granted I shop mostly on the perimeter of the grocery store, stocking up on fresh vegies, chicken, and fish. But hubby and grandkids still demand their occasional treats and comfort foods. You can’t beat a cheescake made with Philadelphia cream cheese, and yes, there is a coupon this week for that too. I printed a number of coupons today and expiration date is one month from now. To really save money, wait till those items are also on sale at your local store and double dip!

Now as much as I love value shopping, I hate clipping coupons then having to organize them and then remember to use them before expiration dates. So I find myself only sporadically using available discounts. What is great about a coupon site is that you can very systematically check for coupons when you are actually ready to shop. No waiting for the Sunday paper or weekly community savings paper. The coupons are online, waiting for you to immediately download and print. The site does require that you download a printer script in order for the bar code to print correctly and be accepted at your local grocery store. The site is Truste guaranteed, so no need to worry about spyware or adware being installed.

So… with pre-planning and a little careful shopping, that new pair of shoes at Zappos.com could be free.

Talk about value. Now that’s a deal!

So it’s your turn to share. Have you found a great resource to cut costs or use money saving coupons?

Change is Good – You Go First

Change. Unexpected or chosen, change complicates our life.

When change arrives, new choices become a daily necessity and our comfort zone vanishes.  You have entered a strange territory. With no personal GPS system to guide you, without knowing how to speak the language,

Fear becomes a daily companion.

What about…?
What if…?

Without knowing what the future holds and what’s right around the corner, panic sets in.  Your unknown future looms ahead. It feels dark. Overwhelming. Just like your childhood memories, there is a monster under the bed. Undefined, but very real.  What will you do?

It’s up to you. Is this an obstacle or opportunity?

You actually have a crystal ball.  You just don’t know how to use it to light your new path.  It’s easy. Closely examine your history; you’ll find you’ve been here before.

What personal strengths can you draw upon? What life lessons have you learned? Chances are you have been through change before. Perhaps an opportunity slipped by, an opportunity you really wanted. You were upset, even depressed, when the door of opportunity closed. But then what happened? Who did you meet? What new opportunities presented themselves? When patterns are broken, a new path presents itself.

Let go of old lifestyles, what was, what might have been. Focus on your strengths (and you have many.) What gets measured, gets improved.

It’s time to simplify. Fear Less – Do More. I know you can.

Please share your thoughts below. No need to share your name if you’d rather not. But don’t let lack of confidence hold you back from helping someone else. Who knows? Sharing how you forged a new path could help many women who are now where you used to be.

Change is good. You go first!

Susan Boyle’s Dream – Life’s New Beginning

What appears to be not always is. Susan Boyle, a contestant on the 2009 show, Brittain’s Got Talent, stunned the world with her performance, proving that it’s never too late to dream or change life’s direction.

Susan Boyle Sings on Britain’s Got Talent 2009 Episode 1 @ Yahoo! Video
Just like Paul Potts in 2007, Susan Boyle’s Brittain’s Got Talent presentation has shaken the belief that it’s too late to dream. At age 47, her new life is just beginning.
The Les Miserable song choice has caused some to think it was somewhat ironic she chose to sing about lost dreams. But dig a bit deeper. Susan was a loving daughter, a caretaker who cared for her mom until she passed in 2007 at age 91. Experiencing the loss of someone close to us makes us question our own mortality and realize how short and fragile life actually is.  When asked where her courage came from to get on the stage and sing, Susan said “My mom gave me the courage. The song was a tribute to her.”
Dream. Then like Susan Boyle, risk being judged. And do it anyway.

Your Gift – How many eyes will shine because of you?

What is Your Definition of Success?

What does success mean to you?  Loving relationships? Financial security? Fulfilling career? Making a difference?

For me, success has never been about money or what money can buy. Success is living authentically, aligning lifestyle to values, and creating a community of women who share my vision of making eyes shine bright with confidence and clarity.

How many eyes will shine because of me? Depends. Do I have a driving conviction to act on this vision or will self-doubt stifle my vision?

Fear Less – Live More

I believe in dreams, focused action, and that we each have a gift to share. It may be a view. A life experience. A gift of listening. Unfortunately, fear and lack of confidence often rears its ugly head and gets in the way of sharing our gifts with those who need it most.  If you don’t believe in yourself, who else will?

Having a belief in yourself and your convictions benefits everyone around you. Your conviction and enthusiasm is contagious. Belief will cause eyes to shine with joy, understanding, and hope. Just like Benjamin Zander.

The Gift of Deep Listening

Benjamin Zander, conductor of the Boston Philharmonic since 1979, uses his gift of music to help people open their minds to possibilities. Watch the humorous, touching, and eye opening TED conference video as Benjamin Zander explains the gift of listening and how it will transform not only your life but those around you.

“In the face of difficulty, we can despair, get angry, or choose possibility.” Benjamin Zander, Author, The Art of Possibility

“One of the most inspiring, practical, and uplifting books I have ever read. ” Christiane Northrup, M.D.

How many eyes will shine because of you?  Believe in yourself and be amazed at the transformation. You are a leader, whether you choose to be or not.

Life Lessons from the Easter Bunny

Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket

Easter Basket

Easter Basket

No one knows what life’s next chapter holds. But one thing is clear. Putting all your eggs in one basket is a recipe for disaster when you fall down. And you will.

Unexpectedly.

Developing a strong network of trusted friendships, lifestyle skills, and diversified financial accounts will see you through difficulty. Remember balance and diversity in all things.

Everyone Needs a Friend with Big Ears

Girlfriends

Girlfriends

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could share feelings and dreams without fear of being judged? Or be on the receiving end of well intended advice?

The gift of listening is rare. The gift of actually hearing what the other person says is even harder to come by.

As much as you want to be heard, so does the other person. Family, friends, co-workers, clients. Everyone is looking to be understood. Imagine each person with a sign around their neck that says, “Please, listen to me. Hear what I am saying.”

Provide that service and you will be counted among the most trusted of friends, colleagues, or advisor.

All Work and No Play Can Make You a Basket Case

Enough said. :)

You Can Only Fool Us for a Short Time

What? The Easter Bunny isn’t real?

I’m sure you’ve experienced it. That let down feeling when you found out someone wasn’t who you thought they were? Be genuine. Especially to yourself.

You deserve it.

The Best Way to Rob a Bank is to Own One

The best way to rob a bank? Own one.

This according to William Black, author of the book The Best Way to Rob a Bank Is to Own One: How Corporate Executives and Politicians Looted the S&L Industry

Bill Moyers Interview with William Black

Bill Moyers Interview with William Black

Currently an Associate Professor teaching Economics and Law at the University of Missouri, his book paints a picture of the fraud that occurred during the 1980’s Savings &Loan  crisis from his front row seat as a senior regulator.

William Black calls it as he sees it.

Our current financial meltdown a “moral crisis” and one of calculated dishonesty.

“A single bank, IndyMac, lost more money than the entire savings and loan crisis.”

The difference between now and then, explains Black, is a drastic reduction in regulation and oversight, “We now know what happens when you destroy regulation. You get the biggest financial calamity of anybody under the age of 80.”

What is so important to understand that the checks and balances, the regulations meant to protect our fiinancial system, vanished once again. Will we never learn?

Financial Serenity – Second Step Acceptance

Financial serenity begins with acceptance.

The second step in the Swan Circle of Wisdom is Acceptance.  You must embrace your current reality before you map out and begin your personal journey to financial serenity.

Sands of Time Stop for No One

Sands of Time Stop for No One

Balancing the wisdom of knowing what you actually control and learning what you must accept will transform your life. You cannot control the passage of time, world events, or the daily fluctuation of the stock markets.

But you can control your thoughts, attitudes and perspectives.

You can choose how you spend your time, how much you choose to spend or save, and where you place your money to ensure either its protection or potential growth. You can choose to find an advisor you trust.

You can decide to make an investment that is guaranteed to provide you with an exceptional return on your time and money. Education and skill building.

By laying a foundation of personal awareness, you will realize that the power to change direction lies with you. Watch the video and understand that the most serious threat to your future and that of your children is our country’s addiction to debt.

Accept the truth. Then take control. I’m here to help. Please take time to share your thoughts. Let me know if you are interested in a Women & Money workshop by either posting below or contact me.
